If you decide to book a trip with us know you are in good hands. To run a trip under the Tennessee Valley Anglers banner you must be a USCG licensed Captain. Guides must also have a proven reputation for fishing ethically, conducting safe trips, and just having a good time.
Capt. Jon T. Oody
I was born and raised in East Tennessee and as a result of my fishy disposition, I have spent the majority of my life chasing anything that swims in our local waters. I started out soaking worms and minnows from a dock and then graduated to throwing ultra light spinning gear for trout and fishing for what ever I could catch in Ft. Loudon Lake. I was introduced to fly fishing when I was 11 years old and didn’t look back for many years. The cold streams of the Smoky Mountains and the back waters of the lakes is where I cut my teeth with a fly rod. After high school, I moved to Colorado and for the next four years and worked as a fishing guide learning everything I could about trout, pike, and carp. When I moved back to Tennessee, I picked up where I left off and started guiding our local tailwaters. I became interested in conventional tackle again in my early twenties and have built a level of confidence in that realm that has allowed me to offer that skill set for hire. I don’t discriminate between species or gear, I love to fish and I love sharing the adrenaline a tug on the end of the line offers!

I’ve always loved the peaceful excitement of fly fishing and always found myself thinking about that next big trip to the mountains. When my leisure time came, I was fly fishing. I was always captivated by the guides I saw, rowing their anglers down river and finding those special places on accessible by drift boat. I knew that guiding others and showing them the places I treasure would be a very rewarding career. I’ve been in the business of guiding fly anglers to east Tennessee’s finest fly fishing destinations since 2001. I strive to please my clients and work very hard to make sure every day out on the water is a very special day. Being a professional fly fishing guide isn’t always easy, but it is always rewarding and I’m truly blessed in doing what I love.
